WHAT DO WE SEE?
The Exotic Animal Department at Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine sees avian, small companion exotic mammals, and reptile/amphibian species by appointment Monday through Thursday at our North Haven office. We offer wellness, sick-pet, 2nd-opinion, and referral case care. Our goal is to offer same-day work-up and management for patients evaluated through appointment, when elected. Separately, our North Haven Emergency Department offers 24/7 basic evaluation and supportive care of avian and exotic pets. Hospitalization may be offered to pets needing supportive care, monitoring, and post-surgical treatments 24/7 through coordination with our emergency, critical care, and inpatient departments.

Dr. Shakeri and her team are well versed on up-to-date husbandry standards, from chameleons and water dragons to rabbits, hedgehogs, macaws, and beyond. Common, presumed behavioral conditions addressed by the team may include self-injurious behavior in birds and barbering in small mammals. Some of the less common species that Dr. Shakeri treats include axolotls, various frog species, sugar gliders, degus, and peafowl.
