Each year the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) gives out awards to outstanding humans in our industry. This year we are extremely proud to share that our very own Kathy Cavanagh won the 2024 Healthcare Team Member of the Year!
This recognition is awarded to an individual whose technical skills, efficiency, client relations, and community service exemplifies the best of veterinary medicine in the State of Connecticut.
Kathy, a certified veterinary technician, joined the leadership team at Central when she took on the role of Client Care Manager in 2005. She is considered an industry expert in pet insurance and the financial aspect of veterinary care and works closely with our medical teams to optimize care for all spending plans.
Beyond her skill and service, Kathy is a kind and thoughtful leader and colleague. She exemplifies our Central Hospital values every day.

A note from our hospital director, Ken Aldrich:
Kathy has been dedicated not only to Central Hospital but to the entire veterinary industry. Her time at Central has been focused on improving the experiences of both pet owners and hospital staff members. This passion has led to countless hours counseling and consoling people going through difficult times with their pets. She has been able to see past the moment to understand the individual’s entire situation which helps her find ways to truly help. This same focus and vision is what allows her to be a great resource for our team.
Beyond Central she has devoted her time to non-profit organizations like the Connecticut Veterinary Technician Association and New Haven Country Veterinary Medical Association. These organizations, with Kathy’s help, have helped to advance our industry through education and advocacy. Kathy is a strong believer in the importance of staff to veterinary medicine and believes they should continually be elevated.
One of Kathy’s passions is pet insurance because of the positive impact it has on pet owners and the veterinary team. She has taken this interest and developed an expertise that has been a resource for many people in the state well beyond Central’s walls.
Kathy was deservedly nominated and subsequently awarded this designation because of both her day-to-day actions and the greater impact she has had on veterinary medicine throughout the state. I am happy to extend not only a congratulations but also a thank you for all that she has done.
