Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

Referrals are necessary for the Radiology Department ONLY. You may make an appointment for other departments without a referral. We do not schedule emergency visits but it’s a good idea to call before coming down so we are expecting you.

CAN YOU BE MY VETERINARIAN FOR ROUTINE CARE?

Central Hospital For Veterinary Medicine sees patients for emergency and specialty care only. We do not provide routine care.

WHAT IF I WANT ALL THE RECORDS FOR MY PETS CARE TO BE AT ONE PRACTICE?

Central Hospital For Veterinary Medicine shares all records of any treatment and care your pet receives here with your own veterinarian so all care provided by us can be included in your pet’s complete health record.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SPECIALIST AND MY FAMILY VETERINARIAN?

A specialist has gone through rigorous and extensive training consisting of four years of undergraduate school, four years of veterinary school, one year of internship and two to three years of residency in their chosen specialty such as surgery, internal medicine, radiology, etc. Once all the educational components have been satisfied, the doctor must submit and publish an original research article and sit for a national exam. Upon successfully passing the exam, the specialist receives the highly distinguished diplomate status in their field of interest.

WHAT METHODS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept cash, personal checks with valid ID, Debit, Master Card, Visa, American Express, Discover, Wells Fargo Health Advantage, and Care Credit.

WHY ARE YOUR PRICES SOMETIMES HIGHER THAN OTHER VETERINARIANS I HAVE GONE TO?

Because we are available to you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our overhead costs are high. In our efforts to provide exceptional care we have a highly trained staff of veterinarians, board certified specialists and veterinary technicians. We have high quality equipment and stock medications used to treat your pet in the event you should have a life threatening emergency as well as antidotes for common toxicities not available at all veterinary clinics. Our in-house laboratory and X-ray service are available 24 hours a day. Because test results are received quickly our veterinarians are able to help you make decisions to treat your pet faster and more efficiently. Our hospital and staff members are committed to what we do best, providing quality care for your pet. We can only continue to offer the highest quality veterinary care if we manage our business in a financially responsible manner.

WHAT IF THE SERVICES YOU RECOMMEND ARE NOT WITHIN MY MEANS?

We are sensitive to the fact that often veterinary expenses are unexpected. We rely on open dialogue with families of sick or injured pets to provide the highest standard of care based on each family’s personal means. For this reason we provide you with a detailed treatment plan for each patient with an estimate of the cost. The initial treatment plan will always include the highest standard of care. However, we can often take things step by step rather than proceed all at once. If you have questions regarding your pet’s care please feel free to speak with us freely about your concerns.
