Dr. Brodeur is a native of Massachusetts. She attended Vassar College for her undergraduate degree, and Tufts University for veterinary school. Following this she completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, CT, and a three-year emergency and critical care residency at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Brodeur’s clinical interests include brachycephalic airway emergencies, wound care, and intoxications. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, playing with their five cats, and gardening.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Dr. Smith attended Wesleyan University as an undergraduate, with a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, and earned her veterinary degree from Tufts University in 2013. Following veterinary school, she completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery followed by a three-year residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center. Her clinical interests include management of sepsis and trauma, as well as respiratory emergencies. Outside of work, she enjoys playing piano and guitar, trying to find the best nachos in New Haven, and spending time with her husband, dog, and two cats.

24 Hour Emergency Care

We are open twenty four hours a day seven days a week! No appointment needed for emergencies and ICU services. Call us on the way or complete the welcome form in advance so we can assist you immediately. The welcome form is located to the right of this field (scroll over the lightbulb symbol). We have been providing the greater New Haven area with emergency veterinary care for over 40 years and will always be here to help. Our veterinarians are supported by a diverse hospital team of nurses, technicians, handlers and administrators. We have been honored to receive the “Best of New Haven” award eight times.

Critical Care and Trauma

Additionally, Central Hospital is a trauma center, staffed and equipped to manage life-threatening traumatic injuries. Our emergency room is staffed by experienced veterinarians with specialty training in emergency medicine, and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In partnership with the emergency room, our ICU is staffed by criticalists certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Our emergency team works together with all of our specialists and your family veterinarian to provide the highest standard of care to our sickest patients. The ICU is staffed 24 hours a day with highly trained staff. Because we are always open, we are able to provide round-the-clock monitoring and treatment of critically ill pets.

Our emergency and critical care department provides:
Continuous around the clock EKG monitoring Oxygen therapy
End-tidal capnography Pulse oximetry
Hematocrit and hemoglobin monitoring Stat blood gas, electrolyte, and coagulation analysis
Multi-lumen central line placement Peritoneal dialysis
Cardiovascular, respiratory, and nutritional support Vacuum therapy for wound management
Isolation unit for patients with contagious diseases.
