Specializing In Oncology

Our Oncologist, Dr. Gina Olmsted, will extensively review your pet's medical history prior to your visit. At your visit she will perform a complete and thorough physical examination on your pet, and based on these initial findings, additional tests and treatment options will be discussed in detail. Dr. Olmsted works closely with our other specialty departments, including the surgical service, internal medicine service, and radiology service to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for your pet.

The oncology service at Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine offers comprehensive consultation, diagnostic services, staging and treatment plans for all cancers of companion animals. We have a full time oncology service at Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine that sees appointments Tuesdays through Fridays

.

Our Oncologist will obtain and thoroughly review your pet’s medical history prior to your appointment. During your appointment, a complete physical exam will be performed on your pet. Based on these initial findings, additional diagnostic tests and treatment options will be recommended.  There will be a detailed discussion about cancer type, associated prognosis, and together we will formulate a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual pet and your family.

The initial consultation appointment with our oncologist is scheduled for a full hour to allow time to answer all of your questions and to permit a detailed discussion given the complex nature of the subject matter. In many cases we can perform any recommended diagnostic tests on the same day as your initial consultation, although some may have to be performed at a follow up visit. Often we can also start treatment the same day as you initial consultation if you are ready to do so. After your consultation a summary of your pet’s visit will be shared with your primary care veterinarian who will remain an integral part of your pet’s care. Our goal is to function as a team with your primary care veterinarian and you to provide the highest level of care for your pet.
